Welcome to Growing Family, my home and garden blog all about making the most of busy family life, indoors and out.
I’ve always been fascinated by the process of making things grow; I grew up grubbing around on my dad’s allotment and the urge to coax things into life and develop my own patch of land has been an obsession ever since. The blog started off as being purely about fitting gardening and enjoyment of the outdoors into family life, this is still a key part of my content but I also write about family crafts, days out, holidays and interiors.
Family is a big part of my blog, so here’s a little bit about mine.
Catherine – that’s me. Mum, wife, writer, gardening geek and fan of wellies. Before having children I worked in brand marketing which was sometimes less than glamorous (baby dummies…), sometimes decadent (chocolate and beer…) and always a bit crazy. I gave up the full-on career to be a full-time mum, which was scary, liberating and wonderful. I started my blog as a way to combine my love of writing with my passion for gardening, being outdoors and spending time with my family. Now it’s my day job, which is pretty amazing!
Chris – usually the one behind the camera. My husband could never be described as green-fingered – he doesn’t even own a pair of wellies – but he’s very much an outdoors person. His ideal holiday would be spent climbing big hills and admiring the views at the top, armed with the bare minimum of supplies. He will never give up trying to convince me that it’s possible to travel light, he hasn’t managed it yet though…
Sam – fourteen years old and a bundle of energy. Always smiling, always happy to give something a go. Loves cars, technology and being outside letting off steam.
Lily – ten years old and a real free spirit. Fiercely independent and so loyal to her big brother. Loves dancing, animals, exploring nature and creating odd names for toys.
Milo the cat – rarely seen in photos, but very much part of the family. Loves ear tickles.
And that’s us! Thanks for stopping by and hope you enjoy the blog.
