Easter nature crafts: four easy easter crafts for kids

Are you searching for some fun Easter crafts? These Easter nature crafts will help little ones to explore nature and create some lovely Easter decorations and games.

This is such a fantastic time of year to craft and play with nature. Everything is growing, there’s loads of colours and textures to experience, and we’re heading into longer days and warmer weather. Add in the fact that the kids are usually off school over Easter, and there’s lots of scope to get them busy with some nature-based crafts. The added bonus is that you can bring a little bit of nature into your home with some gorgeous Easter decorations 🙂

Great Easter nature crafts for kids

Here are four fab Easter nature crafts to try with the kids.

Each of these kids Easter crafts uses items that are easily found in nature at this time of year, so they’re perfect for combining some outdoor play with indoor crafting.

Nature decorated Easter eggs

Decorating hard-boiled eggs is a firm favourite at Easter, and this is an easy way to decorate them naturally.

Gather some nature treasures such as small twigs, leaves and flowers, then use glue or *Mod Podge to stick them to your eggs.

Flat items are easier to stick to the egg, so it’s a good idea to pop your nature treasures between paper and place them in the middle of a heavy book for a few hours before you use them.

You could make a pattern, create cute faces, or just decorate your eggs randomly. There are no rules!

When you’ve finished, apply a thin layer of glue or Mod Podge over the top of your egg to seal it, and leave it to dry.

Natural Easter egg dyes

Dyeing eggs is another Easter crafts tradition, but did you know there are lots of ways to dye them using natural ingredients?

Dyes made with natural materials tend to be paler and more muted than artificial dyes, but that makes them all the more lovely in my opinion.

Here are some ideas for things you can use to make natural dyes.

Paprika or yellow onion skins: orange dye
Turmeric: yellow or gold dye
Tea bags, loose leaf tea or coffee: brown dye
Chopped up beetroot: pink or red dye
Red onion skins: red dye
Chopped up red cabbage: pale blue dye
Red wine: purple dye
Spinach leaves: green dye

Start by making a solution of about 1 litre of water and 2 tablespoons of white vinegar in a saucepan. Bring this to the boil (this is definitely a stage of the process for the grow-ups to tackle), then add your dye ingredient and simmer for about half an hour.

Let the solution cool down, then strain it. Add your hard-boiled eggs and leave them to soak for a minimum of 30 minutes. If you’d like the colour of your eggs to be stronger, you will probably need to soak them for longer.

When you’re happy with the colour of your eggs, remove them from the liquid using a slotted spoon or tongs, and pop them on a piece of kitchen roll to dry.

You can also experiment with sticking natural materials such as leaves and petals onto your eggs before you soak them. If you stick things down really well you can create lovely prints.

Nature collage Easter tree

A collage is the perfect nature craft for even very young children. They can gather some fallen nature treasures when you go for a walk or play in the park, and turn them into a rustic natural Easter decoration once you get home.

Cut some egg shapes out of card, and punch a hole near the top edge. Then use *double sided sticky tape or *glue to attach your nature treasures. Thread them with string and hang them up. You could use a painted twig tree, or just arrange some sticks in a jug or vase.

A nice variation on this Easter nature craft is to make cardboard Easter bunting. Cut triangles of card and punch two holes at each end of the top edge, then decorate and thread them all together with a length of string or ribbon.

Painted stones egg hunt

This is a brilliant way to combine some nature crafting with an Easter tradition. A painted rocks egg hunt is also a great option for vegans and anyone with an egg allergy, or if you’d just like to keep a limit on the chocolate!

Use paint pens, acrylic paint or permanent markers to decorate stones with easter-themed designs. If you’d like the designs to last, paint over each stone with a layer of varnish when everything is dry.

Once your easter stones are finished you can hide them around the garden to create a fun, reusable egg hunt game.
