Buds!

March 19, 2015 by Catherine 19 Comments

At last!  My garden is coming to life!

It feels like it’s been so long coming this year; I don’t know if it really has taken longer than usual for signs of Spring to appear, or if blogging about all things gardening has made me more impatient.  Probably the latter!

Either way, a wander with the camera this week was so exciting; all that longed-for new life emerging!  It put a smile on my face and really energised me, I love how stepping into a garden can do that in seconds. Here are a few of my favourites.

Spring buds ornamental cherry

Ornamental cherry – my 40th present from the kids last year, I was worried this had died over Winter – phew!

Spring buds Chinese dogwood

Chinese Dogwood tree – these leaves will turn from green to an amazing crimson in Autumn

Spring buds apple tree

Apple tree – hoping for another bumper crop this year

Spring buds magnolia

Magnolia – can’t wait for this one to flower

Spring buds clematis montana

Clematis Montana – love the twisty tendrils leftover from last year

Spring buds tree peony

Tree peony – looks a bit alien!

Spring buds Hydrangea Bombshell

Hydrangea ‘Bombshell’ – a recent gamble from the garden centre clearance shelf, so glad it’s sprung into life!

Capturing the very start of the season on camera has revealed just how fast the pace of the growth is, right from the start.  Since taking these photos only a couple of days ago you can already see more green, bigger leaves, more buds.  Isn’t nature completely wonderful?

Seeing buds beginning is just such a feeling of happiness and anticipation isn’t it? You know there’s not too long to go so you can really start to get excited about it. I have a bit of thing about stopping to stroke furry buds at the moment, which is fine in my mind but must look a tad off to passers by!

Thank you for joining in again lovely x

Yes to furry bud stroking – anyone who thinks it’s odd clearly hasn’t tried it!

We’re starting to see buds of life too, although I’m pretty sure my lavender hasn’t made it through Winter – off to the garden centre I go!

That’s a shame about the lavender – but lovely to have an excuse to go plant shopping! Enjoy 🙂

Lots of lovely buds! It’s exciting to see things coming to life again in the garden. I agree with you on the pace of growth, I took a photo of our hydrangea buds a few days ago and they have bloomed into sizeable leaves already.

It’s so exciting seeing everything growing literally overnight isn’t it? I’d love to do some sort of time-lapse photos of it – need to get myself organised!

Yes, nature’s totally wonderful – as is seeing the garden come back to life! I lost my magnolia a winter or so ago and haven’t replaced it yet, but what with yours and Annie’s photos I’m getting magnolia envy… 🙂 #hdygg

Well this is the time of year for serious magnolia envy! They really mark the start of Spring for me, can’t wait until ours blooms.

I’ve been going bud crazy recently in my anticipation for spring. Lovely captures of the future blossoms in your garden.

I think we’ve all been desperate for it to get going for so long that when the buds have finally appeared it’s gone to our heads!

Yes it’s all so promising at this time of year – even when the weather jumps from sunshine to sleet with no warning!

Oh wow, so many positive signs of Spring.
It’s often difficult to tell if a plant has made it through Winter, always such a relief when those buds start appearing

Yes Spring seems to be happening later this year in the Midlands so I was very relieved to see signs of life on a couple of plants I’ve been worried about. I don’t think we’ve lost anything over Winter this time, phew!

So exciting watching the buds appear. I bought some fruit trees this year and they are still not budding, I’m hoping that they are a bit behind due to cold transportation or something otherwise I’ll be very cross 🙂

I think there’s still time yet for those buds – everything was much later in our garden this year. Fingers crossed!
