I spend a lot of time daydreaming about my perfect garden. As I learn more and find more inspiration the design changes in my mind, but one thing always remains constant: it has to have a water feature. All that wonderful sensory enjoyment that a water feature brings to a garden is a must-have for my dream outdoor space.
Back in the real world, I’d love to see a little bit of my dream made reality by installing a water feature in our garden. There are so many great reasons to make room for a water feature in your garden; for starters, it’s a way to stamp your style on your outdoor space, with many different design options available, from the minimalist to the downright showy.
Water features are also great for providing a focal point for your garden; use them to distract the eye from an uninspiring view or draw the eye to an area you want to showcase.
You can even use a water feature to serve a practical function; integrate one into a pond design and you’ll enhance the visual impact while also helping to encourage wildlife in your garden.
No matter what your garden size, shape or style, there’s a water feature to suit. If you’re planning on installing one it’s tempting to start by browsing products, but before you do, try to spend some time thinking about what you want it to do for the garden. How big a part of the garden do you want it to be? Where do you want to be able to see and hear it from? And really important if children use the garden: how safe does it need to be?
It’s also crucial to consider the practicalities of the effect you’re trying to achieve – namely, how are you going to get the water to the feature. This is not an area you want to cut corners on; the water supply needs to be reliable and properly installed in order to achieve the desired effect. A pressure water pump system such as those supplied and installed by Pumping Solutions will deliver the water to the feature consistently, and is particularly beneficial if your garden is very large or long. Pumping Solutions also offer a design and installation service, so if you’re looking for something unique they will work with you to turn your ideas into reality.
Water in the garden isn’t all about keeping the plants happy; installing a water feature can give your garden a whole new dimension and really enhance your enjoyment of your outdoor space. By taking some time and expert advice to consider the best system for your garden, you can install a water feature that will serve you well for many years. I think we’ll be dusting off our water feature project very soon – how about you?

I really want a water feature in the garden and I’m keen to use a solar powered pump if I can. Do you have any experience of these?
I’m afraid I don’t have any experience of solar pumps – I’ve always assumed you would need lots of regular sunlight for them to perform well, not something we can rely on in the UK!
There are several water pumps specifically designed for transporting water throughout gardens with different features such as pressure and flow rate. It is great to see that you have selected the right pump for a fantastic garden.
