So, spring is finally underway and we’re all starting to enjoy more time in the garden. Are you planning any projects to spruce up your outdoor space?
My list of garden jobs seems to be getting longer every day; I’ve got borders to tidy up, seeds to sow, a lawn to revive, a shed to paint, and a whole allotment to reclaim from the weeds. We’re going to be busy!
To help me tackle my to do list, I’ve been checking out the range of garden and outdoor products available from wilko. There’s everything you need for your garden project, no matter how big or small, and as you’d expect from wilko all the products are great value.
I’ve picked a few clever products to give you a taste of the range, take a look at how I’ve been using them.
Portable Potting Box, £6
This is just fantastic. It allows you to turn any surface or table into a potting station, and keeps all the mess contained. There’s plenty of room for everything you need to plant seeds or re-pot your plants, as well as some handy pockets for your seeds and tools.
When you’re finished the whole thing folds away neatly, so there’s no need to find lots of space for it in the shed. There’s even carry handles to make it easier to transport and hang up.
I always make such a mess when I’m potting up plants and seeds, and this simple piece of kit stops me doing that. I’ve been using it outdoors, but it’s also perfect for a spot of indoor gardening.
I love the little side pockets, as well as keeping things tidy they also stop your seed packets blowing away in the wind! Such a time-saving, clever product, and an absolute bargain too.
Fence Hanging Pot, £5
Containers are a great way to add colour and interest to your outdoor space, and this clever hanging pot is perfect for brightening up a fence or balcony. I’m impressed that there’s a built-in water reservoir at the bottom which helps prevent plants from drying out, and I’m loving the simple, contemporary style too.
All you need to do is add some plants and hook it over a rail for an instant display.
These pots are available in three colours – aubergine, bright green and black – so you could stick to one colour or mix and match for extra impact. I’ve planted some cheery flowers in my pots and they’re really brightening up our boring fence, I like the fact that it’s easy to move them around too.
Tomato Planter, £4
I’m always on the lookout for clever products that make it easy to grow your own, and this tomato planter is a perfect example of just that. At first glance you might think this is just an ordinary plant pot, but take a look inside and you’ll see there’s more going on.
See the hole in the middle? That’s designed to securely hold a cane, providing strong support for your plant right where it’s needed. No more wobbly canes leaning over in the soil, and no more floppy plants. There’s also a shelf that slots in before you add your compost, which creates a generous water reservoir to help stop your plants drying out.
Add in the fact that the planter is nice and deep, and you’ve got the ideal growing conditions for tomatoes; it’s also ideal for other tall crops such as runner beans and cucumbers. It’s really sturdy and solid, and I’ll be able to re-use it year after year making it great value for money.
So that’s three different garden projects made all the better with some clever, easy to use products. I hope I’ve given you a little introduction to the wilko garden range, but there’s so much more to see and you can find the full range over on the wilko website here. There really is a fantastic selection of products on offer, all at low prices.
