Introducing Num Noms & giveaway

April 3, 2016 by Catherine 61 Comments

mix and match fun with collectible toy num noms

Get ready for a new collectible toy craze: Num Noms have arrived!

We’ve been having lots of fun reviewing these cute little characters, which have launched in the UK this week.  And I’ve got a lovely giveaway for you too; one lucky winner will be among the first to try out this fab new toy, with a Deluxe Pack and two Mystery Packs worth £20.97 up for grabs.

num noms starter pack childrens toy

Num Noms are scented mini characters inspired by sweet foods and flavours, such as cupcakes and ice cream.  They’re cute, quirky and highly collectible, with over 1,000 mix and match combinations.  Here’s how they work.

Take a Num, the outer, soft, squishy, hollow character, and pop it on top of a Nom, the inner, hard-shelled character.  Noms are either motorised to scoot around, or filled with flavoured lip gloss.  You can mix and match your Nums and Noms to create your own favourite – or wacky – scent and colour combinations.  The motorised Noms add in a race element too.

We tried out the Cupcake Deluxe Pack which retails at £14.99.

Lily was intrigued as soon as she saw the pack; it’s brightly coloured and definitely designed to appeal to girls.  Thankfully the pack is nice and easy to open, with no fiddly bits requiring scissors.  And you can play with the Num Noms straight away, as the Nom’s batteries are included.  Both a big plus as far as I’m concerned; wrestling a new toy into action can really kill the excitement.

In the Deluxe Pack you get six Nums, two motorised Noms, a spoon and a cup or cone.  The scent hits you as soon as you open the pack; they really do smell yummy.  Each Num has it’s own fragrance – our pack included Sweetie Strawberry, Mimi Mango and Betsy Bubblegum –  and they’re very cute, each with their own little personality.

Lily needed a little bit of help fitting the Nums onto the Noms, but soon got the hang of it and got straight into pretend play.  We’ve had Nums chatting to each other, races, tower contests, flavour stacking and lots of cupcake towers being served.

The Num Noms have been played with a lot – more than I expected they would be.  In our house the sign of a hit toy is if it makes it onto the bedside table; the Num Noms have been in the top spot every night so far.

From an adult’s point of view, I really like that there’s no ‘right’ way to play with this toy.  It’s down to each child’s own imagination, and this really extends the play value beyond just collecting the sets.

The idea is for kids to collect and play by scent, but they’ll definitely also be played with according to colour and type.  I can see how kids will want to build a collection; Lily has been studying the leaflet inside the pack which shows the other Nums in the range, no doubt there’s a pack already at the top of her wish list!

Num Noms are suitable for children aged five years and over and are sold as Starter Packs costing £8.99 and Deluxe Packs costing £14.99.  These would both make great gifts, and there’s also a Mystery Pack option, costing £2.99 and including one Num and one Nom lip gloss, which is perfect for pocket money treats.
