What is National Children’s Gardening Week?
National Children’s Gardening Week takes place every year at the end of May. It aims to capture children’s enthusiasm for growing plants and being in the garden.
Schools, community groups and families can all get involved in the fun, via a programme of news and events that encourage kids to get out there and have a go at gardening.

National Children’s Gardening Week also supports the wonderful Greenfingers charity, which is dedicated to providing magical gardens for children in hospices suffering from life limiting illnesses.
The next National Children’s Gardening Week is taking place from 29th May to 6th June 2021. You can find out more about it here.

The website also has a brilliant Things to do section which is full of fun kids gardening projects – so you don’t have to wait until next May to get the kids busy in the garden.
You might also like to check out my gardening with children section for more ideas and inspiration.

We moved into our home in Autumn 2020 and the garden is sparse and bare but because of the time of year we were unable to do much with it all, we have taken down the rotten shed and planted some “lasagne” bulb planters to give the garden some early colour but it needs far more. Its quite a large garden so i’m hoping to set aside part of it for a wild flower garden and intend on planting bee friendly plants and fruit trees; this voucher would be an amazing help, thank you.

We would buy some fruit bushes so that we can grow of our own soft fruit
I want to buy some fruit trees and bushes
I’d buy plant pots and flowers like roses to add some colour to the garden
I would buy a lovely new bench for us to emjoy in our garden.
Probably put it towards seating as we have no outside furniture yet.
Raised borders would make our awkward garden so much easier to manage
I’d use it to get the materials and soil to have some raised beds to grow veggies in, some raised planters, a couple of patio fruit trees and some trellis or screening if there’s any money left
I would buy some new pots as we lost some to the bad weather recently and some shrubs for our side border!
Heating for my greenhouse so to able to get the most out of it all year round
I would use it to buy some perennials for our front garden. We planted lots of bulbs a couple of years ago, but once they and the forget-me-nots are finished, there are no other flowers.
we in need of planters, pots and trelis, as well as compost and some border flowers
My boys cleared an area at the bottom of the garden which I would love to plant out. They built a bee hotel there which they love tending to
I have a rather steep slope in part of my garden and would love to transform it into a rockery
Haddy, my 8 year old aspiring gardener and nature lover has loved being outdoors growing his own fruit and veg and encouraging wildlife into our garden. He has sown seeds and tended plants, planted wildflowers , built a hedgehog house and fed birds . The pure delight on his face when his first harvest of tomatoes , beans, peas, carrots , beetroot, pumpkins and strawberries was ready was wonderful. Haddy would love to make our garden home to even more wildlife next year and put up a bird box. Some new seeds, raspberry canes and vegetable plants would be perfect to expand his fruit and veg patch. He’d also love to plant his own apple tree.
I woild love to buy some amazing lavendar bushed and bay trees for a scented garden
I would buy a feeding station for the birds, as well as bird boxes, insect houses and bat boxes. Plus plants and flowers that attract, bees, butterflies and other pollenators. A couple of fruit trees would probably go in my basket too!
this would be amazing for winter x
I’d dig the borders out and get some plants in, currently i only have pots. I’d love a little vegetable patch too!
I would love to use the voucher to introduce my grand children to the joys of gardening. Growing plants from seed, growing vegetables that they could pick and eat. No one is too young to learn about the wonders of gardening
This would be a wonderful help for making our garden more wildlife friendly. My children and I would use the voucher to buy a bird feeder, and some plants and flowers that attract bees and butterflies. We’d also love to buy a hedgehog shelter!
I would either get a proper greenhouse or buy some raised beds so its easier for the chidren to help with what we plant.
I’d buy some new furniture and a fire pit
Re-design the garden so I can have a vegetable patch and also lots of plants to encourage the bees.
I would love to buy a large archway with clematis & roses to climb over it. It would look so ROMANTIC in our large garden.
Would be able to plant some bushes & plants that the birds and wildlife could rnjot, plus add a water feature and allotment. Would also like to add another bird table but a ground level one. Also would ve able to restock the garden pots at my elderly mums which sadly got destroyed this year due to weather etc. Would be such a blessing and give much joy. Thank you.
This would be amazing – plans are to create a wildlife area in my garden this year. Thanks so much for the chance
