You may have seen my recent post on orchid care tips, which included lots of tips for keeping orchid plants happy and healthy. In this post, I’m going to take a closer look at Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist, and put it to the test against some competitor products.
So why is it important to mist orchid plants? Well it’s all about creating the kind of environment that they would naturally grow in. Orchids need a high level of humidity – much higher than you’d normally find in your home. So to create that humid environment, you need to add moisture to the atmosphere, and the most effective way of doing this is to spray the plant with an orchid mist spray.
Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist is a new product which is ideal for hydrating your orchid plants. As well as providing that all-important moisture, it also contains the essential nutrients needed to support and encourage healthy flowering, so you’re providing two benefits every time you use it.
In order to distribute the moisture and nutrients evenly, a mist spray product needs to deliver a really fine mist. If the mist isn’t fine enough, you end up with fewer, bigger droplets on the leaves, and that only moisturises small areas of the plant. The feed element can only be absorbed where the droplets are located, and you can also end up with unsightly marks on the leaves where large droplets have crystallised.
Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist delivers a super-fine mist spray, which ensures the moisture and nutrients are evenly distributed and absorbed by the plant. I’ve been using it on my orchid plants, and as you can see from these pictures, it gives a really even coverage of fine droplets.
To illustrate just how well Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist delivers a fine mist, the Baby Bio team have asked me to test it against two competitor products and show you the results.
To carry out my mist test, I took Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist plus two competitor orchid mist products, and added a little pink food colouring to each bottle (so that we can see the mist more effectively). Then I sprayed each product onto it’s own sheet of white paper. To keep things fair, I sprayed from the same distance and with the same pressure each time.
Shall we take a look at the results?
The Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist is on the left, and as you can clearly see it has delivered a much finer spray which is distributed far more evenly across the paper, with no large splotches at all. The competitor products have delivered a much more uneven spray, with larger drops that are more concentrated in some areas; on a plant this would translate into patchy coverage, and probably residue on the leaves where the large droplets are located.
Based on my experience of using Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist and the results of my mist test, I can honestly say it’s the best performer by far. It delivers moisture plus essential nutrients in a fine, even mist, and it’s really easy and convenient to use too. I’m definitely going to be using it on my orchid plants regularly from now on!
Will you be using Baby Bio® Orchid Feed & Mist to keep your orchids happy?

Bought baby bio feed and mist from garden centre yesterday noticed on the back it has DOM 12/2016 lot x153 is it out of date?
Hi Frances, I’ve checked with the Baby Bio team and the DOM date refers to the date of manufacture. The product doesn’t have an expiry date. Hope that helps!
