Why bifold doors are a great choice for your renovation project

If you’ve watched any home renovation shows over the last few years, you’ve probably noticed bifold doors featuring in lots of room designs.  Bifolds are certainly a popular choice for renovation and extension projects, and there are lots of reasons why.

What exactly are bifold doors?

Bifold doors are essentially multiple door panels that fold back on themselves in a concertina pattern.  They’re a popular alternative to traditional sliding patio doors and french doors, and offer a flexible way to open up an entire wall of your room.

Why choose bifold doors?

If you’re starting to plan a major room revamp, here are some great reasons to consider including bifold doors in the design.

Space saving

You might not automatically think of bifold doors as space saving, but their footprint when open is relatively small.  Bifolds also avoid the need for space around them, unlike traditional doors that swing open.

Maximise natural light

If you’re looking to flood your home with natural light, bifolds are a brilliant way to do this.  Replacing a large area of the wall space with essentially a big window will allow maximum natural light into your home and brighten up the gloomiest room.  All that natural light will make the room feel bigger too.

A seamless transition to the outdoors

Outdoor living is becoming increasingly popular – especially at the moment! – and bifold doors allow you to blur the boundaries between your home’s interior and outdoor space.  The ability to open up an entire wall onto the garden is a brilliant way to incorporate open plan living into an extension, and create a garden view that you can enjoy from indoors in any weather.  Being able to open up your home into the garden also ticks all the boxes when it comes to entertaining a crowd.

Tailor-made configuration

Bifold doors offer lots of flexibility when it comes to configuration.  Like all bespoke windows and doors, they can be tailored to suit your room.  You can dictate the number of leaves, opening direction, size of leaves, and whether you’d like to include a traffic door, and if you choose aluminium doors you’ll also have some options on finish and colour.

Low maintenance

You might not think of bifold doors as low maintenance, but compared to lots of little panes of glass they’re actually quite quick and easy to keep clean.  And aluminium bifolds require very little in the way of frame maintenance too.

Security and efficiency

Bifold doors usually have multi-point locking systems and high security hinges, making them a superior choice to traditional doors when it comes to security.  Many modern bifolds also boast good energy efficiency, thanks to superior glazing and thermal breaks within metal frames.

A modern design solution

If you’re looking to create a contemporary feel in your interiors project, bifolds are ideal.  Their clean, crisp lines and simple styling will blend in perfectly with a modern design – and they’re an easy way to create that all-important wow factor!

Do you have an interior space that could be transformed with bifold doors?
