The best flooring for a family home

October 31, 2017 by Catherine Leave a Comment

Not sure which type of flooring is best for your busy family home? This guide from Flooring Republic explains the best options for each room in the home.

When you decide to replace the flooring in your home, one of the biggest decisions is choosing the right option for the room in question. With so many flooring types available, getting it right first time can feel a little daunting.  This guest post covers flooring recommendations for each room in a typical family home.

Kitchen & Bathroom

Possibly the most difficult rooms to decide on in your home are the kitchen and bathroom. These rooms are heavily exposed to moisture, so it’s important to make sure that, whilst you nail the style, you don’t allow it to overlook the practicality.

Solid wood tends to expand in wet conditions, so it is best avoided in these rooms.  Our top recommendation is laminate flooring; it is incredibly sturdy, has reasonable levels of water resistance, and looks really stylish.  It is also easily the most cost effective option; there are some excellent laminate flooring deals available.  Laminate flooring can also handle the pressure of high levels of traffic, and doesn’t damage easily under stress, meaning it has excellent longevity.

Living Room & Bedroom

Your living room and your bedroom will be the places you spend most of your time at home relaxing and kicking back. It’s important to ensure that you have maximum comfort, whilst still delivering on the style front. Your living room is your pièce de résistance; it’s not just used for relaxing, but also for hosting guests. With that in mind, it’s important you find the right middle ground with your design.

We recommend parquet for the living room due to not only its beautiful looks, but also the fact that it’s incredibly practical. It’s a traditional zig-zag style flooring, so adds a really stylish edge to your home.

For bedrooms our recommendation is hardwood flooring, with the best option being engineered wood. Darker colours add a lovely warm aesthetic to your room, and make everything feel very homely, particularly with the winter months rolling in. Hardwood flooring also has the ability to have underfloor heating installed, which is an ideal way to add an extra level of luxury to your finished room.

Dining Room

Dining rooms are very much on display to guests, and as a result it’s often style that takes top priority when it comes to flooring for this area of the home.  A classy, elegant design is our recommendation, to ensure you impress your party guests.

The best options on the market are hardwood and vinyl tiles. Vinyl is the most practical alternative to hardwood; durability is one of its strongest features, and it’s an all-purpose solution which is ideal for a busy family home.  There are a number of different designs available, and it copes easily with the stress of scraping chairs and any spillages!

So there you have it: a quick guide to the best flooring for each room in a family home.  Which room in your home would you like to treat to a flooring update?
