Living Room Inspiration

August 24, 2016 by Catherine 6 Comments

I’m a complete sucker for dreaming about and planning my perfect home.  Since moving into our house, we’ve extended twice and decorated every single room at least once, and we’re by no means ‘finished’.  As the kids get older, we’ll carry on updating and rethinking our indoor space to suit the changing needs of the whole family.

When it comes to interiors, I get my inspiration from magazines, online retailers and a good dose of Pinterest browsing.  Updating our living room has been top of my list for a while now, so when Fishpools asked me to create my own inspirational living room mood board using their sofas as a starting point, I jumped at the chance to give the makeover a kick start.

I’ve already decided I’d like a scheme based on tones of grey; I’ve used this colour palette elsewhere in our house and I love how it gives a modern, clean finish.  I also really like how easy it is to add in pops of colour and texture with soft furnishings and accessories.

So, having spent a very satisfying few hours browsing online, here are my top picks to inspire my living room re-vamp.  Enjoy!

1. FISHPOOLS POPPY EXTRA LARGE SOFA

Part of the Fishpools fabric sofa range, this Poppy sofa would work really well in our living room.  I love the clean lines, and the fact that there’s a little retro nod in there too.  It’s a really generous size, and the rich silver fabric will co-ordinate beautifully with a grey colour scheme.  There’s a lovely Snuggler option too, which I quite fancy tucking into a corner of our bay window.

2. MADE.COM TRIO SCATTER CUSHION

Mustard pairs perfectly with grey, and this fab geometric design adds interest and a really modern feel.  There are other geometric designs in the same colourways too, so you could really build up the effect.

3. JOHN LEWIS ENZA COFFEE TABLE

How tactile is this?  The smooth legs echo those on the sofa, and the oval shape will stop it taking over the space.

4. NEXT SLOANE GLASS PENDANT LAMP

I really want a bit of luxury in my living room design, and the gorgeous curves and subtle sheen of this pendant lamp certainly provide that.  I love that it’s a glamorous piece which still manages to feel very modern.

5. JOHN LEWIS FELT STORAGE BUCKET

Every room in our house inevitably ends up strewn with the kids’ possessions, so practical storage is a must.  This large felt bucket is perfect for tidying away all the clutter super-fast, and it looks gorgeous too.

6. HONG KONG 7526 GREY/YELLOW RUG

Oh this is just perfect!  Geometric design, bright pops of colour, and a lovely thick pile to sink your toes into.

7. IKEA GLADOM SIDE TABLE

This fab little side table has a subtle industrial feel which complements the contemporary look I’m going for, and the colour is perfect.  It’s an absolute bargain too!

8. JOHN LEWIS CROFT COLLECTION RIBBED KNIT THROW

Our living room can get quite cold, and this chunky, tactile throw is perfect for snuggling up under on chilly evenings.

9. HABITAT MOWAT VASE

You can really build up the accent colour with accessories, and this fabulous vase is the perfect finishing touch.

So much living room inspiration – I’m feeling really fired-up to make a start on this room now!

Have you got any tips for creating an interiors mood board?  Or maybe you know the perfect product that should go on my wish list – let me know in the comments!

This is a stunning selection. I love grey in interior design and my sofa is very similar to the one in the middle. Thank you for sharing all of these lovely things.
