This week I’ve been giving our garden furniture some much-needed and long-overdue tlc.
We have a hardwood outdoor patio set which, until a few years ago, we took very good care of; we treated it with preserver every year and stored it in the shed over Winter. However, as family life has placed more demands on our time and the space in our shed, we’ve really neglected it. Take a look for yourself:
It’s really showing the effects of harsh weather and no preserver, isn’t it! So it was a really good test for the Garden Furniture Stain and Protector from Sadolin.
Formulated to be hard-wearing, resistant to mould and algal growth, and to protect your furniture from the elements, Sadolin Garden Furniture Stain and Protector claims to provide a beautiful, protective finish to keep your garden furniture looking great for longer. Just what our neglected patio set needed.
Before we started using the product we gave the furniture a light sanding to create a smoother surface. Having experimented in the past with skipping this step I’d definitely recommend doing this, it really does make a big difference to the finished effect.
Sanding done, we were ready to start. The product is really easy to apply with a brush, it’s not hard to achieve an even distribution and you can build up the layers if required. We used the warm teak colour which is quite dark and therefore it was very easy to see where we had already painted, this might not be as obvious on darker wood.
The tin you can see in the picture is 1 litre and this was just enough to treat the table and four chairs. It’s touch dry in 2 hours and you can add another coat in 4-6 hours. The table top needed a second coat but everything else only needed one coat – which is very good performance from the product given the state the furniture was in before we started.
What a difference! I’m really impressed with the Garden Furniture Stain and Protector, it has given our patio set a new lease of life and the colour is lovely and natural. The wood has a satin feel to it now and you can tell it’s well protected because when it rains the water beads on the surface rather than soaking in.
Treating our garden furniture has been one of those outdoor jobs that always seems to slip to the bottom of the list. Having tried the Sadolin product and seen the results I think we’ll be trying to make this annual job a much higher priority from now on.
I was gifted the Garden Furniture Stain & Protector for review purposes, all opinions and comments are honest and genuine.
Interesting. I’ve never tried out this product before, but the result does look pretty good.
Thankyou for this article… we have the exact same story…! Well cared for and yearly oiled table for 5 years then the demands of family life has left it neglected for 2 years. It originally had a stained almost varnished finish which has flaked and cracked so I’m in the process of sanding it all down to the wood and trying to find the right colour stain to protect rather than just a clear oil… scouring the internet for actual real life pictures of what the sandolin stains look like. This has been really helpful Thankyou.
